What is reflexology and how can it help me?
We currently have a physiotherapist working with us who has an extra qualification in reflexology. Here we outline the main benefits of the therapy and how it can help you!
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient practice rooted in the belief that certain points on the feet and hands correspond to different organs and systems in the body. By applying pressure to these specific points, the therapy aims to promote healing and balance within the body, and have a positive impact on your health.
It's a holistic treatment, meaning it considers the whole body rather than just specific symptoms or conditions.
What are the benefits of reflexology?
Reflexology can be incredibly beneficial for a variety of reasons. Studies have shown it can help reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, and improve overall well-being. It’s also been found to aid in pain relief, improve circulation, and enhance sleep quality. While everyone can benefit from reflexology, certain studies have specifically shown benefits amongst people with cancer, chronic foot pain, plantar fasciitis, and arthritis.
Stress Reduction: Reflexology can induce deep relaxation, helping to alleviate stress, and anxiety.
Pain Relief: Targeted pressure can relieve pain from conditions like migraines, arthritis, foot, and back pain.
Improved Circulation: It promotes better blood flow, which helps distribute oxygen and nutrients to cells and removes toxins.
Better Sleep: Many people find that reflexology helps them sleep better and can help to manage insomnia.
What to expect during a reflexology session with us?
When you come for a reflexology session, expect a calming and therapeutic experience. Here’s a step-by-step of what typically happens:
Consultation: The session begins with a brief consultation where we will ask about your health history and any specific issues you’re experiencing.
Reflexology treatment: We then ask you to lie down on a massage table, if you are comfortable. You'll remain fully clothed, except for your feet or hands depending on the focus area. We will then use a reflexology balm to apply pressure to specific points using thumbs, fingers, and hands. This should feel soothing and relaxing, although some areas might be slightly tender.
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive way to support your overall health and well-being. Whether you're looking to reduce stress, alleviate pain, or simply enjoy some relaxation, reflexology can be a valuable addition to your wellness routine. Why not give it a try and see how it benefits you?
